Glass plate of Rabindranath Tagore, Bengali poet, philosopher, mystic and the first Indian winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.
The photo is from the archive of the family of Arthur De Groodt, Flemish doctor and professor and friend of Frederik Van Eeden (admirer and translator of Tagore). There was a real Tagore craze in Flanders and the Netherlands at the time. Juliette Adant brought Tagore to Antwerp in 1920 for a lecture 'Message of the Forest' in Arenbergstraat. The photos were taken at the home of Mr and Mrs De Groodt, 42 Lange Gasthuisstraat.
